The Sadhana Intensive is a two-week yoga course based on the classical teachings of the Hatha Yoga Pradipika. It was designed by Swami Vishnudevananda, who based the course curriculum on the intensive Hatha Yoga practice which he himself followed during a period of an intense Sadhana retreat in the Himalayas. Swami Vishnudevananda often said that this intensive practice gave him the energy to carry out his mission of spreading the teachings of yoga in the West for nearly 40 years.
This course is based on individual practice divided into two or three sessions per day, with the emphasis on an intense and prolonged practice of advanced pranayama. Students work towards eight hours of hatha yoga per day.
It is a unique course since students have time for deep introspection through prolonged individual practice. It affords a unique opportunity to extend the limits of our capabilities, strengthen our stamina and develop self-confidence with long lasting effects. Many students choose to take this course several times, with each time a deepening of their yoga experience.
The emphasis of the course is the practice of pranayama more than of asanas. The course starts with 2 practices a day for the first week, then increases to 3 practices a day. Each session lasts for 2 to 3 hours.

Participation in the entire daily schedule is mandatory. There may be occasional changes to the schedule according to the needs of the students.
This course is for graduates of the Sivananda Teachers' Training Course only.
The Sadhana Intensive requires a high level of self-discipline and preparation. Participants should have a sound physical and mental health. They should follow a vegetarian diet for at least 6 months before the start of the course and practice kapalabhati and anulomaviloma daily for at least 6 months before taking the course.
Constant adaptation to local customs is required, as well as inner openness and sincere acceptance of the instructions given by the teachers.

Assessment and Certification
The students are continuously assessed throughout the course at all levels.
There will be a written exam at the end of the course to evaluate the understanding of thephilosophy of Yoga and skills of the students.
Participant should pass all different aspects of the course to be eligible for the course diploma.
Assessment is based on:
1. Regular attendance of all classes
2. Attitude and behaviour inside and outside of the ashram while attending the course
3. Performance and attitude in the practical asana, pranayama, bandhas and kriya classes
4. Hatha yoga teaching skills
5. Written daily summary of the main philosophy classes and hatha yoga theory classes
6. Written examination of 3.5 hrs on the theories of Yoga and Vedanta philosophy.
Upon successful completion of the course students receive an internationally recognized diploma.

We teach a traditional, exact, and easy-to-learn system that aims to create a healthy body and mind that leads to spiritual evolution. We practice classical hatha yoga. A typical Sivananda asana class includes a sequence of 12 basic asanas that are considered to be the most important asanas to practice daily. Our classes are taught in the traditional style of entering and exiting a pose slowly and mindfully with concentration and focus on breathing. All classes start with pranayama breathing exercises, and continue with a warm-up of sun salutations and brief relaxations between asanas. We offer open classes and beginner and intermediate courses to suit a variety levels, and more advanced courses as the student moves into a greater depth of practice.

Yes. There are no prerequisites for the Teacher Training; yoga is for everyone and everyone can begin where they are.
Sivananda Yoga is not a vinyasa-style yoga practice, although the Sun Salutation is a foundational warm-up in our classes.
By the end of the Teacher Training Course (TTC), you will be able to teach a 2-hour Sivananda Yoga class that includes warm-ups, postures, breathing, and relaxation to beginners and more experienced yoga practitioners as well as special classes for children, elderly, and pregnant women. Yes. Upon successful completion of the course students are certified and receive a certificate as a Yoga Siromani (Teacher of Yoga).
Yes. This training is registered by and fulfills the requirements for the Yoga Alliance 200-hour certification, for which graduates of the program are invited to register.
The Teacher Training Course is a well-established immersion training, offering you an unparalleled classical yoga education and connection to an international yoga lineage. During the teacher training you will live as a part of the traditional “Gurukula” system, in which a student lives and learns with a teacher and other spiritual aspirants in an immersive yogic environment. Your curriculum will include study of hatha yoga, asanas, pranayama, meditation, Bhagavad Gita study, study of Vedanta or yoga philosophy, anatomy and physiology, and study and practice of how to teach.
